HOLLYWOOD PARTY DECORATIONS
First things first, encourage the children to decorate themselves. That is, tell them to dress celebrity-style, and wear a pair of sunglasses even! They are VIPs, after all! And in case some kids forget, be sure to have some extra glam clothes on hand from your closet or local thrift stores just incase!
Go the whole hog and roll out the red carpet for the celebs arriving at your front door. Use plastic sheeting or plastic wrap or even an old red blanket. Line it with white outdoor Christmas lights. Get several cardboard boxes and cut out huge lettering for Hollywood, and put it on your lawn. Put spotlights in front of it, or flashlights. Make a big sign that says “On (month, day, year), A star was born!" and hang it on the front door. Get pieces of bristol board, tape it to the front hallway and draw and decorate stars for each child as their “Walk of Fame.” Cut out smaller star shapes from the left over bristol board, cover them in tinfoil, spray on some glitter, and use them to decorate the party rooms. Use shiny gold, silver and black balloons and light reflecting foil streamers and hang them everywhere. Go to a theater or a video store and pick up some old movie posters for free and post them around the various rooms. In the main room hang the Awards Night Door Cover and Gold Star Door Curtain and set up a revolving Disco Ball.
HOLLYWOOD GAMES AND ACTIVITIES
ARRIVE INSTYLE
Bedazzle the guest of honor, and treat all the guests like VIPs by renting a limousine to transport everyone to and from the party location. If you have the limo rented for several hours, offer "joyrides" to all the guests!
BACKSTAGE PASS
Draw up a list of the guests and write “VIP” at the top. As each guest arrives, formally scratch their names off and give them all-access backstage passes to the party! To design backstage passes, cut up pieces of bristol board about the size of an ID card. Write on the top: “[your child’s name here]’s Hollywood Party” and beneath “VIP [recipients name here] all-access backstage party pass.” Color in with party colors and sparkles. Punch a hole on either side and pull enough string or yarn through so it can dangle comfortably around the child’s neck. For extra glam, also hand out Black Gangster Hats or a Disco Hats to each boy and Colored Boas to each girl.
PAPARAZI STALKER
Capture the magic of the event and add to the fun by having volunteer photographers (friends or other parents) pose as picture-taking paparazzi! Get lots of film so they’ll feel free to snap away! Create a photo backdrop with black bristol board against a wall, and encourage all the guests to stop by to have a "formal" picture taken. Guests will genuinely feel like celebrities with these camera-toting hounds on the loose!
ACADEMY AWARDS SCAVENGER HUNT
Set up an Academy Awards scavenger hunt for all the young stars! Prepare a list of items (microwave popcorn, pictures of famous movie stars cut out of magazines, a movie actor's pretend autograph, and so on). Give a free movie rental coupon to the kid who finds the most!
HOLLYWOOD MOVIE DEBUT
It’s time to round up your little celebs for their big shot at the silver-screen! Get the cast and crew assembled to act out the plot of a popular movie (for example, Shrek, The Lion King, Finding Nemo, A Shark’s Tale; etc.), or their very own special birthday movie plot! Supply them with a Movie Clip Board and a trunk of old Halloween Costumes and retro clothes to pick through. Leave them to organize the performance, and when they’re ready, film the whole presentation with your family video camera or a rented one. This is sure to bring out the celebrity in everyone!
GLAMOUR FOOD
For your thirsty little stars, serve apple cider out of old champagne or wine bottles into chilled plastic champagne or wine glasses filled with colored Lite Cubes (look like glowing colored ice cubes).
For the main course, give them Timberlake Taters (French fries), Macarena Macaroni (macaroni and cheese dinner) and Brittany Burgers (hamburgers). Shape the cake like a star for the birthday celebrity!
STAR-STUDDED LOOT
Pass out bags filled with individual-sized bags of microwave popcorn, Mirror Ball On Chains, mini-boxes of candy (like you'd get at a theater), Black Glitter Microphones and Diamond Word Tattoos. Meanwhile, the whole evening long another paparazzi could have been filming the night’s festivities. As a nice finishing touch, send each child’s developed glam-shot photos and a dubbed tape called “Hollywood Movie” to the guests later! “ That will keep them talking about the Hollywood party theme, the Hollywood movie and the best Hollywood Birthday Party ever for a long time to come!
